When should the wisdom teeth be removed?
This answer is different for every patient, but ideally, our dentists would recommend that the wisdom teeth be removed around the ages of 14-18, hopefully before they cause any major problems. Some patients can keep their wisdom teeth, or should have them extracted much later. However, be sure to follow the advice of your/your child’s dentist as far as having them removed.
Does having wisdom teeth removed hurt?
Thanks to our modern dental techniques, including local anesthetic and sedation, our patients describe feeling next to nothing during their wisdom tooth extractions. Afterward, a little swelling and bleeding at the treatment sites are common, but this can be easily managed with pain medication and a cold compress.
Will a wisdom tooth extraction be covered by my insurance?
Every dental insurance plan has slightly different benefits, but generally, most do offer at least some coverage for a wisdom tooth extraction, as much as 50% in some cases. You can give us a call to see how your particular plan covers the procedure.
Does getting dental implants hurt?
Patient comfort is very important here at Wisdom Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, so we always use local anesthetic and sedation when placing dental implants. Thanks to this, most patients describe feeling a little pressure during the procedure, but definitely not pain.
How long does it take to recover from getting dental implants placed?
This answer can vary quite a bit from person to person. For example, if a patient just has one implant placed into a healthy jawbone, they’ll probably heal in a matter of weeks. On the other hand, if a patient receives multiple implants after undergoing a bone graft, the healing process may take 3-6 months. Will I need a bone graft before getting dental implants?
This question is hard to answer without us actually seeing you in person. The thickness of your jawbone and the location of the implants will be the determining factors for whether or not you’ll need a bone graft.
